Michael Maier
Michael Maier is the Principal Trombonist of the Boise Philharmonic. He previously played Associate Principal Trombone with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.
Maier has performed in a wide variety of groups, including the Seattle Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Spokane Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Utah Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Florida Grand Opera, Chicago Symphony, and the Tonhalle Orchestra. Since 2014, he has played Principal Trombone for the McCall Summer MusicFest. He has also played with the Sun Valley Music Festival.
Maier is an active music educator. In addition to his private teaching, he guest taught the trombone and euphonium studio at Boise State University several semesters. In 2015 he was a guest with the Mirari Brass Quintet, giving recitals and masterclasses around the country. He has been on the faculty of the music camp Young Musicians and Artists in Salem, OR. He taught at the Reaching Heights Summer Music Camp in 2018 in his hometown of Cleveland Heights, OH.
He was a fellow in the Zurich Opera’s Academy program in 2007-08. As a member of this program, he performed extensively with the Zurich Opera Orchestra.
He earned his Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University in 2007 and his Master of Music from The Juilliard School in 2011.
Maier lives in Boise with his wife Lindsay, who is Associate Principal violist with the Boise Philharmonic.
